Their pain:
- The producing team needed an affordable solution for managing 4,253 stills taken across a key art shoot and 6 days of filming with 6 cast members having approval rights.
- The production only had RAW image files which were too large for them to easily open and view.
- As well as requiring talent approvals management, their producing team needed a way mark their favourite key images to be delivered as the main image set for use.
- Images required colour grading to match the look of the film.
- Actors required certain images to be retouched before use.
- Their distributors required a caption sheet for all images submitted by the production.
Our solution
- We created high-resolution JPGS from the RAW files so that the client could access everything they needed to.
- Before images went out for talent approval, we provided a first pass over them to curate them down. This meant removing images that were duplicates, out of focus, unnecessary, unflattering or otherwise unusable by the production.
- This enabled us to present the best 783 unit images from across production, being sure to include full scene coverage from multiple angles, shots of all key cast, and captivating behind the scenes images, as well as 830 gallery images that could be used as key art.
- As a result of us presenting the best images to the cast, a whopping 1075 images (67%) were approved for use.
- Once the cast completed their approvals, the producers were able to view the approved images and mark their selects on the Image Approvals platform.
- We then provided image editing and colour-grading services for the 281 selected images in order to meet actor requests and have the stills match the look and feel of the film.
- All edits were applied at the RAW file level and in a non-destructive way which means all further exported JPGS contain the edits, whilst external graphic teams also have the ability to revert back to the original out-of-camera image if required.
- Once complete, we delivered the stills to the client with everything organised into killed, approved and approved selects folders.
- We also provided a full set of reports so that they have a log of which images were killed, approved, or marked as a select, and also provided a caption sheet for all of the producer’s selects which included each image’s name, thumbnail, caption, usage notes and photographer name.
Timeline:
August 25th – Original images received.
August 31st – All images organised and online ready for cast to approve.
September 13th – Approvals complete and locked in. 281 selects edited and colour graded.
September 14th – Project complete and all images returned to client.

I'm part of the marketing team for WTA Media and we engaged with Image Approvals to help streamline our talent approvals process for one of our larger feature films, Redeeming Love.
